Early Bird Gets the Worm?

Some of you are going to hate me…. I know, I know, it’s only mid-August and my house already has pumpkins out… Oops. It just happened and I couldn’t even help it. Let me defend myself real quick though….. Works about to get cray cray so I know I won’t be focused on decorating for fall… and then I’ll be in Germany for half the month of September…. AND FALL IS MY FAVORITE EVER. So, decorating for early fall with lots of neutrals and green’s only made sense to do this weekend. So, that’s what I did.

I only decorated my living room and dining room for now. And you know they will change as we progress into fall. This year I plan on keeping it neutral for now and then as we transition into cooler weather going with plaids and your typical autumn colors.

I also didn’t use any new fall decor in Phase 1 of fall decorating (that’s what we are going to call this). I have a couple of things on order and can’t wait to get them in but, the only thing I bought for this go-round were apples at the grocery store. I am always happy with myself when I can be resourceful and use things I already have :).

I’m loving the green apples for a simple fall center piece. The concrete bowl they are in is from Magnolia market and the white pumpkins are ones I spray painted last year.IMG_5780

I’m liking the change in wall decor with the drift wood wreat here. I think it adds a nice rustic element to the room which makes me think of fall. This wreath was from Pursueing Eden last year.

IMG_5781 IMG_5782 IMG_5783 IMG_5784

I struggled with what quote I wanted to write on on my chalkboard but finally settled with “Autumn paints in colors summer has never seen” I thought that was fitting for the time of year since we are still technically summer……IMG_5785    IMG_5789 IMG_5790

Of course I couldn’t give you a blog post without featuring one of my dogs… Here’s Beau….  IMG_5792 IMG_5793 IMG_5794

Next up, the bar cart. I’m not in love with what’s going on here but, for now it will do. White heirloom pumpkin is from Pursueing Eden last year. The baskets are ones that I had mums in last year that I obviously killed. IMG_5795

I’m loving the trophy with a couple of small pumpkins in it. The trophy is form Pursueing Eden last month! IMG_5796

Since the wreath got hung on the dining room wall, Bertha moved into the living room. We shall see if she stays here.IMG_5797 IMG_5798

The pallet FALL letters are one of my favorite pieces of fall decor. They came from a local store last year. The pumpkin pillow is form Ms. Craftberry Bush via Society Six, green pumpkins are from world market from last year, and pumpkin garland TJ Maxx.

IMG_5799 IMG_5800 IMG_5801 IMG_5802 IMG_5803 IMG_5804

This scale just makes my heart happy and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the mini pumpkins on it. This scale is from Pursueing Eden this year.IMG_5805 IMG_5806  IMG_5808

OK, so I lied. I DID buy these dandelions this year for fall decor. Aren’t they adorable?!

IMG_5809 IMG_5810 IMG_5811 IMG_5812 IMG_5813 IMG_5814 IMG_5815

IMG_5816 IMG_5817 IMG_5818 IMG_5819 IMG_5820 IMG_5821 IMG_5822 IMG_5823 IMG_5824 IMG_5825

Thank you guys for stopping by and not judging me too hard for decorating for fall in mid August.

New Decor from Pursuing Eden!

Soo, you know how you make goals? And then realize that you aren’t meeting them? Thats happening to me right now in my personal life and at work and I’m realizing we are already a third done with the year. Sigh. One of my personal goals was to blog more this year. I wanted to blog at least once a week.. But, I’ve been in a decor lull lately. That is, until I received some packages last week from Pursuing Eden which inspired me to change things up a little bit in the living room and dining room!

I originally found Pursuing Eden at Canton. When we lived in Houston I would meet my mom in Canton, TX to shop. Pursuing Eden’s booth was the one that I looked most forward to. Since I haven’t been back to Canton since moving to KS I would just frequent their Instragram account (Pursuing Eden Home) and start telling them what I wanted to buy via IG. I’ve got a lot of seasonal decor from them and have loved EVERYTHING I have received. They have a storefront in Longview, TX which is on my bucket list to visit and they also do rentals for events (for any of you local folks needing something pretty!).

They recently launched their online store! SHREEK! Do you know how happy this makes me?!?! You can visit them online and shop your little heart away HERE. I plan on doing monthly overhauls and blogging the decor from there so I don’t get in a decor lull again (<<thats a real thing, right?! Do any of you other decor junkies have this happen?!).

I’m sharing my dining room and living room today and you will notice that the photo shoot was more of a progress shoot as my white cow (whom I’ve named Bertha) appears in several locations. The items from this month is the cow canvas, white churn and gray charlotte tray.

Sorry for the overload of pictures, photobombers and dirty floors. It apparently rained all week while I was in Seattle and is suppose to rain this week so I just didn’t even try to clean the floors today. Hey, this is real life.

Valentines Day Living Room Decor

If you’ve been following me on Instagram for awhile it’s no secret that I’m a neutral decor loving girl. Honestly, sometimes holiday decor gives me anxiety because of all the colors. However, I decided to step outside of my comfort zone and use pops of red and pink for my Valentines Decor in our living room this year.

One thing that I think really helps with using pops of color is to have a neutral base and our house and furniture is very much that. I also want to share some tips on how to add holiday decor without spending an arm and a leg.

  1. Frequent Target. Target Threshold line has really good seasonal decor. I picked up this red/pink/gold garland in their seasonal decor and I believe it was only $7.99. For that, if I never use it again then it will be OK. But, I also try to think of other things I can utilize it for, like throwing wedding/baby showers?

2. Throw pillows are such a good way to add pops of color and so simple to remove post holidays and completely change a room. I don’t think any of these pillows I actually made but, I did get a sewing machine a couple of years ago and DO typically make my throw pillows.

3. Bring Christmas/Other Seasonal decor with you. For example the “snowball” garland on the fireplace was a target Christmas decor item but, I chose to leave it up. The pom/pom wreath was also a West Elm Christmas wreath that I got on clearance right after Christmas.IMG_5452 IMG_5453 IMG_5454

4. Fresh flowers! AND feax flowers. Who doesn’t love fresh flowers? Treat yourself to some at the grocery store the next time you go. The one big down fall is they do die and if you keep replacing them that can get a bit expensive. So, the flowers in the small white and pink vase are actually feaux. They loook so so real but, I’ll be able to continue to use them. I got them for 50% off at Michaels and was OK with paying a little bit more since they aren’t going to die on me!

5. Find those books/cook books you have that’s cover goes with your seasonal colors and then use them to decorate. For me, it was a macaroon cookbook that I had in my pantry that was pink. P.S. I tried making macaroons at least 10 times last year and NEVER succeeded. I finally just gave up.

6. DIY’s! Pallet letters are a super simple and FREE way to change a statement piece seasonally. If I was being traditional my COZY would be replaced with LOVE but, I didn’t have the letter V on hand and didn’t want to ask the hubby to make me another one right now (because I had several other honey-do items!).

IMG_5457 IMG_5458

7. DIY Some books! I had old vintage books on hand and simply stamped LOVE on them. Such a simple and cheap DIY.

IMG_5459 IMG_5460 IMG_5461 IMG_5476 IMG_5462

7. Use colorful coffee cups in your decor. Coffee cups are cheap. I just got done drinking coffee out of this Target cup right before this picture was taken!

IMG_5463 IMG_5464 IMG_5465

8. Similar to the throw pillow tip, use blankets. I typically get my cheap blankets at TJ Maxx, Homegoods, etc. this one in particular came from the little girls bedroom section at Target (I love Target if you couldn’t tell) and was only $24.99!

IMG_5466 IMG_5467 IMG_5468 IMG_5469 IMG_5470

IMG_5471 IMG_5472 IMG_5473 IMG_5474

9. Buy Fabric in your seasonal colors! Fabric is cheap and can be utilized for LOTS of things. IE. table runners, DIY’ing your own garland, etc. In this case I hung the pom pom wreath and tied bows around the candles to add settle touches of pink on the mantle.

IMG_5475 IMG_5476

10. Splurge on a thing or two that will make no sense to you after the holiday comes and goes. I got thee white/pink/gold vases. I probably won’t use them the ENTIRE rest of the year but, they were perfect touches to the living room. These were from Hobby Lobby and of course 50% off so I really did only spent $6.99 each on them. I’d hardly call that a splurge. When you are at Hobby Lobby though make sure you aren’t just scouring the seasonal decor aisles. These were actually found on a completely different aisle than the Valentines Decor aisle.

So, what do you guys think of our Valentines Day living room? Do you have any tips for adding seasonal decor without it costing you an arm and a leg?

Thanks for stopping by!

Winter Decor!

I know it’s three weeks after Christmas but, I still struggle with post-Christmas blues and what to do with my house AFTER Christmas. I finally got the last two Christmas tree’s down yesterday… One of them was real and I think it’s fair to say that I will never have a real tree again. I spent 3 + hours cleaning up pine needles and they are STILL stuck in the carpet downstairs.. EEK.

Anyways, I’ve decided to leave winter greenery up and some mini tree’s and call it winter decor! It’s still frigid in Kansas and some snow flurries are coming down right now as I type so I think thats acceptable. My plan is to probably move all the winter decor downstairs and decorate upstairs for Valentines Day but, we will see if that actually happens!

We re-arranged our living room right after Christmas and I’m loving the new set up. I also got that bar cart for Christmas that I’m in love with. I haven’t styled it but, a few things I got for Christmas ended up on there!

IMG_5409 IMG_5410

IMG_5411 IMG_5412

Another Christmas present I got were these slip covered chairs from World Market. I absolutely love them. I haven’t steamed the covers yet but, meh we haven’t really had company yet. I promise to do it before the first dinner party! HAHA.

IMG_5413 IMG_5414

I love the way rearranging the living room really opened up this space. The only reason I didn’t do it sooner, I was terrified the dogs would use it to jump down the stairs. I have some very agile bird dogs that don’t always use their brains!

IMG_5415 IMG_5416 IMG_5417 IMG_5418

I’ve also chosen to keep our dining room chalk board a clean slate for now. I think it’s a great metaphor of what a new year is all about, a clean slate. I plan on chalking it soon but, for the next couple of weeks I’m going to leave it blank!

IMG_5420 IMG_5421 IMG_5422 IMG_5423 IMG_5424 IMG_5425 IMG_5426 IMG_5427 IMG_5428 IMG_5429 IMG_5430 IMG_5431 IMG_5432 IMG_5435 IMG_5436 IMG_5437 IMG_5438 IMG_5439

It was apparently nap time for the pups when I was taking pictures!

IMG_5440 IMG_5441 IMG_5445

And I’ll leave you with a cute pic of Miss Amy!

I’ll be back in the next week or two to show you how I’ve done our basement for winter and upstairs living space for Valentines Day!

Cozy Christmas Guest Room

Eek! I can’t believe we are one week away from Christmas. I’m not even close to having all my Christmas shopping done (I’ve never been this big of a procrastinator and am normally on top of my shopping game!). I have however decorated our guest bedroom even though we have no plans for guests for the holidays…. Priorities, right?

This is my 9-80 Friday (by the way working a 9-80 schedule is a life changer!) so, I think I’m going to have to venture out in the cold and do some shopping today. We are a bit too close to Christmas to sit on etsy with my credit card and order Christmas presents, aghhh.

Anyways, a little bit about our Cozy Christmas guest room. We decided to make the room in the basement the guest room so our guests would have their own little retreat (living room, bar, bathroom… what else do you need!?). We are lucky and our basement actually has windows and this room gets some good natural light! Yay!

I have a huge copper crush right now and put all my touches of copper in this room along with my seasonal favorite, touches of plaid and greenery! IMG_5331 IMG_5330 IMG_5331 IMG_5332 IMG_5333 IMG_5334 IMG_5335 IMG_5336 IMG_5337

I get a lot of questions about the headboard. It’s an old barn door (maybe?) that my mom found at a sale and I found in her garage. We simply just anchored it to the wall.

Truck Pillow – So Vintage Chic (on etsy and instagram)

Copper Candle Stands, mini Tree’s – Michaels

Owl Lamp – World Market

So, what do you guys think of our guest bedroom? Anyone want to come spend Christmas with us?!?!

Basement Christmas Decor

I’ve finally half decorated our basement for Christmas!!! My goal was a cozy lodge fill. Our basement has dark furniture anyways which, I dislike the majority of the time because I want everything to be light and cottage feeling. But, I decided to play it up for Christmas this year and turn the basement into a cozy cabin lodge.

We got a real tree for the basement this year and I love, love, love it! It smells sooo fresh and I’ve officially managed to keep it alive for over a week!!! YAY!!!!! This is seriously impressive for me as I tend to kill any plant that I care for (or don’t care for). IMG_5368IMG_5376 IMG_5375  IMG_5373  IMG_5371 IMG_5370 IMG_5369  IMG_5367 IMG_5366 IMG_5365 IMG_5364 IMG_5363 IMG_5362 IMG_5361 IMG_5360 IMG_5359 IMG_5358 IMG_5357 IMG_5356 IMG_5355 IMG_5354 IMG_5353 IMG_5352 IMG_5351 IMG_5350 IMG_5349 IMG_5348 IMG_5347 IMG_5346

Holiday Guest Bathroom

When I first thought “I want to decorate my guest bathroom for Christmas”, I felt a tinge of crazy run through me. Like seriously, who does that? And then I remembered that the guest bathroom is also our only basement bathroom and we spend a lot of time in the basement so it would be decorated for US too!

I decided to be simple and just add touches of greenery to the space.

IMG_5302 IMG_5303 IMG_5304 IMG_5305 IMG_5306 IMG_5307 IMG_5308 IMG_5309 IMG_5310 IMG_5311 IMG_5312 IMG_5313 IMG_5314 IMG_5315

I seriously love this bathroom. It was the only room in our house that I actually got to pick all the finishes because it was the only unfinished space when we put an offer in on the house. I originally wanted to do all the walls in subway title but, settled on the wall behind the vanity.

Sources for the bathroom:

Vanity – Home Decorators (But, tops were changed out by my daddio)

Mirrors – Bellacor lighting. Note: the mirror on the left is broke. I have no idea how. I believe it was from stress after hanging it

Tray – Hobby Lobby

Soap – Anthropologie

Rugs and Curtain – World Market

Medicine Cabinet – Ikea

Thank you guys for stopping by and I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season! I will have more posts about the rest of the house’s Christmas decor coming your way soon!

Bedroom Christmas Decor

For some reason our master bedroom is not something that I’ve given a lot of attention to. I mean lets be serious for a minute. I sleep with two dogs. every. single. night…… So, the majority of the time the beds not made, the sheets are in the wash and it smells like the humane society. Extremely inviting, huh? Thankfully, the hubby is the only one that gets invited in there…….. But, I wanted to show you all a glimpse of where i spend 7 hours every day. It still needs a lot of work but, I decided I wanted to decorate it for Christmas. I wanted to keep it simple and neutral since the remainder of my house has pops of red everyone.

Yeah, yeah so we did ship lap in our bedroom a couple of months ago. It was a last minute Sunday evening project and we got 90% of the way there. I’m a Project Manager during the day and I excel at starting projects but, not so much at finishing projects. Hence, why the rooms still not trimmed out. Just ignore that part. IMG_5218 IMG_5219 IMG_5223 IMG_5225

If anyone is still on the hunt for a tree Walmart has amazing prices. This tree is 6ft tall, flocked but, not pre-lit and was only $30! I had ran in to walmart after work one night last week to grab little smokies for a work pot luck and saw it and just had to have it. DIY Faux Card Catalog Nightstands

Howdy friends! I’m finally getting around to blogging the DIY tutorial of our nightstands. It’s been a long time coming… but, let me tell you a couple of secrets before we get into the tutorial. A little over a year ago when we were living and working in Houston I wasn’t super happy at my job. I loved Houston, I loved my friends there, I loved my house but, I wasn’t happy where I was at in my career. I convinced myself that I could start a blog and quit my engineering job. This didn’t work out in my favor:

1. My husband wouldn’t let me. I don’t think he will ever let me.

2. I’m not very good at writing.

3. I’m terrible at taking pictures.

4. I’m lazy, lets be honest.

5. I am not a perfectionist when it comes to DIY’s. I like to just get things done….

6. I don’t know how to use tools so most DIY’s in our house come from the hubby.. So, basically I wouldn’t be getting anything done during the day while he was at work.

Anyways, does anyone have a love for card catalogs like I do? I mean I literally drool over every single one I come across. But, they are so impractical. I get it, at one time, they were extremely useful.. but, now not so much. All they are is pretty and expensive. Not wanting to spend $1,000 (+) on something completely impractical for our home the hubby and I compromised. He made me faux card catalog nightstands.

IMG_3651 2

Yup, that’s right.. THEY ARE THREE BIG DRAWERS THAT LOOK LIKE 15 SMALL DRAWERS!!! Winning. I got the idea from The Painted Hive Blog. She’s seriously amazing and gives a very detailed tutorial so, if you are wanting to make these go check her out!

We used IKEA nightstands as a base so two of these cost ~$200 and they now act as our nightstands.

I didn’t take pictures while we were making these.. and I don’t remember every detail so I’ll try my best to explain what we did!(But, again go check out PaintedHive for a real tutorial!)

IMG_3658 2

IMG_3661 2

OK, Here we go.

We started with the IKEA Tarva 3 Drawer Chest. IKEA still had these the last time I was there which wasn’t that long ago. If you don’t live near an IKEA you could use any other nightstand you have on hand or could find cheap. These are $80 and are the perfect bones for a faux card catalog.

I searched around for hardware for quite awhile.. Turns out these require a lot of hardware and hardware isn’t cheap. I found the best deal at aliexpress.com They have a lot of options to choose from. I decided just to do a label on each drawer and two small knobs on each faux drawer. I will say the hardware took quite some time to come in. Between 1-2 months… so, don’t be in a hurry to get this project done!

We then went to Lowe’s and got some plywood. A 4×8 sheet of plywood will be enough for BOTH nightstands.

The hubby cut the plywood into 15 pieces. Each drawer has 5 faux drawers.

Once cut, I mixed all the pieces up so the grain wasn’t constant and it didn’t look like I had just covered a night stand in plywood (it doesn’t look like that right?!).

We then stained the plywood and the night stand. I don’t remember what color the stain was…

We attached the hardware to the plywood and then attached the strips of plywood to the nightstand via glue and nails.

Sean cut the feet of the dresser to match the height of our bed and then framed the sides of the nightstand for a little extra detail.

Ok, so I’m an engineer but, that was terrible technical writing… I know. I took english comp instead of technical writing. AND I don’t like to measure things.. I like to just wing it. Hence, why the hubby does all our projects :).

What do you think of these pretty little things??

Dining Room Buffet

I’ve been waiting to share my blog with people until I got at least a few posts on here. It’s taken me a few months.. I’ve been busy with work and waiting on the hubby to finish up the latest DIY project but, I’m happy to say I am *maybe* ready to share my blog with others.

Anyways, LizMarieBlog has become my idol for decorating and DIY’ing. I’ve gotten so many decorating inspirations from her. Sean built me the buffet table that her husband posted a DIY tutorial on his blog, CraftsManDrive awhile back. If you are wanting a new piece for your house and you love the look and usefulness of this buffet, head on over to Mr. LMB’s site to find the full tutorial here. We customized our dimensions to fit the space we had. Liz Marie has great photos of her buffet decorated for pretty much every season. Hers is obviously decorated by a professional and I’m still very much an amateur!

I’ve had so much fun finding places for things I had and loved (ie. my milk glass!) and purchasing some new items to go on the table. My in-laws brought me the awesome pipe and insulator lamp over Easter weekend and I thought it was just perfect!

What do you guys think? It probably won’t stay like this for very long as I like to decorate and re-decorate over and over again. But, this is it for now!
